Your responsibilities

Your responsibilities to respondents

  • Only use questionnaires or tests that you are qualified to use and keep your password secure so that non-qualified individuals cannot access reports.
  • Only use tests and questionnaires for the purposes for which they are designed (e.g. you should not use the MBTI® instrument for selection). Use psychometric tools fairly, taking account of relevant equal opportunities legislation.
  • Give respondents clear instructions and full information on why they are completing the assessment, how to complete the assessment, what feedback they will receive, what will happen as a result of the assessment and what will happen to their scores, results and reports.
  • Provide suitable feedback.
  • Take reasonable steps to avoid transmitting computer viruses to respondents' machines.
  • Keep appropriate records of the assessments you have sent out, the purposes for which they were administered, and the reports produced.
  • Only divulge results to those who have a legitimate right to know.
  • Keep electronic and paper copies of reports secure.
  • Only send reports to correct and secure email addresses.

Additional information on good practice in computer-based testing, on data protection issues and on general good practice in occupational testing can be obtained from the British Psychological Society.
